Singing in the Same Boat: Support Group for Younger People Living with Dementia

Date: June 10 2019 to February 29 2020

Manchester Camerata and Wigan Memory Services invite younger people living with dementia and their loved ones to take part in ‘Singing in the Same Boat’, a songwriting project and support group taking place at St James Centre, Wigan.

Singing in the Same Boat aims to support people living with young onset dementia and their loved ones to come together and create music based on topics that are important to them. The format and activities will be shaped by the group, based on everyone’s interests and ideas.

We will start by choosing a topic of everyone’s choice and looking at how we can put melodies, words and lyrics to the topic to form songs. Manchester Camerata musicians will facilitate a fun, relaxed musical environment where everyone, regardless of musical skill, can explore music in a way that feels comfortable to them.

Sessions take place monthly on Mondays 13.30 – 15.30 at St James’ Centre, Tipping Street, Wigan WN3 5EZ.

Upcoming sessions:
10th June 2019
8th July 2019
12th August 2019
9th September 2019
18th November 2019

A sharing event will take place in Wigan in early 2020 if the group wishes to share what they’ve created with other people.
