St John’s Collective First Rehersal
The 10th January saw the first rehearsal of Manchester’s
new amateur Orchestra: St John’s Collective. Here is Ryan Breen, Manchester Camerata’s tuba player and coach of the brass section, warming up SJC with some stretches before getting stuck into the rehearsal!
The new orchestra is a collaboration between Manchester
Camerata and Allied London – a property development and investment company who
have created Manchester’s newest city centre neighbourhood called St John’s.
Jonathan Raine, Corporate Director of Allied London, will be
composing a new symphony for the St John’s Collective to perform, based on the
Enterprise City themes. Composers from the University of Manchester will also
create new acoustic and electronic pieces to be performed at their first
concert on the 21st March.
Each section of the orchestra has one musician from
Manchester Camerata as a coach, meaning that each meeting is as much
a workshop as it is a rehearsal. These workshops take place once a fortnight,
culminating in a concert on the 21st March.
