Camerata in the Community

Using music to improve lives across cultural education and health & social care

  • We use music to encourage expression, communication and development of skills
  • New music is created on every project
  • Projects are facilitated by professional musicians, composers, music therapists, theatre makers and visual artists
  • Research and evaluation demonstrates the impact of what we do
  • By 2022, we aim to create music with 90,000 people in the community

Schools

Schools with Camerata

We use creativity to promote personal and social development throughout school life. Manchester Camerata musicians create music alongside young people and everyone’s ideas are valued. New pieces are performed alongside the orchestra at events or concerts, recorded for children and young people to take home, and used as learning resources for teachers.

Evidence shows our work raises self-confidence and self-esteem, which impacts upon wider school engagement and achievement. This is not an enrichment activity but rather a core part of learning. READ MORE

HEALTH & WELLBEING

Music is a powerful tool for expression, communication and social connection. Older people, people living with dementia, and people with additional needs come together in weekly projects to create music alongside Manchester Camerata musicians.

We believe in creating a flexible, open space for people to explore their feelings and make choices about how they want to be involved in a music session. Projects take place in care homes, housing schemes and community centres across the North West. READ MORE
